But first, what is to be a critical thinker? And why is it important for kids? Critical thinking Is the ability to imagine, analyze and evaluate information to determine its validity. Critical thinking is an essential part of problem-solving, decision making and goal-setting. Moreover, Research showed that kids who lack critical thinking skills face a higher risk of behaviour problems. "If kids are not being critical thinkers, then they are not thinking carefully," says Amanda Pickerill, Ph.D.
Now How to teach critical thinking to young children? First of all, we need to be good role models. Play with them regularly, ask questions, "what if." teach them to solve a problem in a real or imaginary situation, help them brainstorm a variety of solutions to the same problem and then pick one to see if it works. Encourage them to ask questions; Practice making choices; Encourage open-mindedness; part of becoming a critical thinker is the ability to be objective and evaluate ideas without bias. Some concepts that could be included to discuss are diversity, inclusiveness and fairness. In conclusion, developing a critical mindset is one of the most important life skills you can teach your child. Especially today, with all the "information" around us, they need these skills to make informed decisions, form healthy relationships and determine what they value and believe. Teaching them to examine the world around them critically gives them an advantage that will serve them for life
But remember the special time with parents and friends. Children will treasure moments when they do things for the first time, go somewhere new, have a conversation, listen to bedtime stories, and feel loved and secure. Those are the moments that will stay in their memories all their lives.
Like many youngsters, Baby Lion gets into trouble because he acts without thinking about the consequences. He lacks self-regulation, and he can not control himself.
Lou and his mane's story pinpoint the role of the little brother's action, something prevalent among siblings. He took something precious from his big brother without asking, and on many occasions, it could end in a big fight. Fortunately, Lou was relieved to see his mane again and noticed that his little brother regretted his actions. He took a deep breath, put on his mane and showed his little brother understanding. There are some ways for parents to minimize those situations, giving clear rules, teaching the children to manage conflict and giving each child their own time and space with you and alone. I got a new video about Feelings and Emotions, for me is very important to share material that allows us to talk with children about feelings and emotions.
This month I celebrate the first anniversary of my children’s book “Lou and his Mane.” I felt proud when I finished the book and prouder every time, I received a review during this first year.
I chose some reviews to celebrate with you this first year. Reviewed in the United States ?? on March 24, 2022 Fun story with excellent illustrations. Children will come back to this book time and time again and will follow the band of friends helping each other out. Subtle lesson and teamwork. Looking forward to more books by this author. Highly recommended. Reviewed in the United States ?? on July 28, 2022 Great book This is a very cute, just delightful book of friendship and mutual help with bright illustrations. I bought it for my nephew Tommy as a gift and now he won't part with it. The main character in this book Lou has become his favorite character and Tommy keeps asking when the adventures of Lou and his friends will continue. I am glad that this wise and kind fairy tale will teach a lot of good things to children, and adults too. I highly recommend this book to children and parents who care about what their children will grow up to be. June 7, 2022 (Goodreads) What a great story! I loved it from the bright and beautiful cover and illustrations through to the fun, well-written and interactive story it is. The character of Lou is Lovable too. The animal friends show kindness and support towards him but when he discovers what happens to his mane, his reaction is a beautiful example to share with all children . A great book to teach kindness and compassion with. Highly recommended for children aged 3 to 7. Such a lovely book! Lou is available at emmasplace.ca (only for Canada) and Canada Amazon ca and worldwide at Amazon.com and other major retailers.
I am very excited to announce that my book "Yuri and the Treasure Box" has been released.
The story is about Yuri, who is a pretty curious monkey! One day, while walking along the Amazon River, he bumps into something strange, something he has never seen before. He picks it up, wondering what it could be. Is it a hat? A seat? A drum? No . . . it's a treasure box! Or is it? While bringing awareness to the Amazon and its diverse wonders, Yuri and the Treasure Box is a delightful book about empathy, self-regulation, curiosity, respect, consideration, and compassion for others. Children will learn the value of kindness, caring for their environment, and respecting others, whether big or small. Yuri and the Treasure box is my second book following the first anniversary of Lou and his Mane, published last year. My book is available on my website, www.emmasplace.ca (for Canada), in two formats. Paperback and Hardcover. Worldwide at Amazon.com. Barnes and Noble. Also, the ebook format available on Kindle, Google, and Apple. For more information about the book and places to buy it, visit my website www.emmasplace.ca |
